Travelling Internationally, eating out with pleasure

I needed to travel to Europe to visit with my companions parents. I decided to travel a few days before, for a couple reasons. One was to get over jet lag before meeting up with everyone, and I also wanted to spend a few days in europe for my own pleasure. I had not done that in a long time and decided to go to Madrid, Spain. I bought a sleeper train ticket to Paris, where I would meet up with my love for the journey to Brittany, on the west coast of France.

Since deciding only a couple weeks before leaving, I did not have alot of time to search for restaurants or take spanish leason. I eat mainly a vegaterian diet, so I searched for one in Madrid. It would elimate the chance of eating something bad for me.

I had found a restaurant by searching on the internet and asked the front desk at the hotel about the distance. He replied” why go there when you can go to a vegaterian place 4 blocks away!” I had been walking for 2 hours and was alittle tired after my 15 hours of flying, so the idea of a restaurant only 5 minutes away was very appealing. Besides it was 9pm and it was the time to eat out in Spain. The  earliest you can find a restaurant open in the evening, is 8pm, by the way!

Well the restaurant was great! You can check it out www.restauranteartemisa.com

I had a wonderful starter, a dip made from roasted peppers and cream cheese, as you can see from the picuture I also had a bottle of organic beer. For the main course I decided on a egglant, seitan, and cheese with a pistacho cream sauce. It was wonderful, and I ended up having a piece of a organic apple pie for dessert.

What a great way to start off a trip. I also found out that directly across from the hotel I was staying at, Best Western Atlantico, was a big grocery store. I was able to go buy organic yoghart, juice and bread and manchego cheese, which I put in the small refrigerator provided by the hotel. Traveling, especially internationally can be very challenging, even for the healthiest person. For me,  finding food I can digest and stay hydrated is a very important detail, especially when I travel.
