Baby Food Study reveals staggering levels of sugar and fat
By admin • May 26th, 2009 • Category: Health HighlightsAccording to a survey published in early May 2009 by the Childrens Food Campaign Lobby in Britain (CFC), some baby foods contain staggering amounts of sugar and fat. The CFC is a coalition of 300 national and local health organizations and 12,000 members of the public. They studied the nutritional contents of 107 foods marketed to babies and toddlers as healthy foods. Some of the foods contained proportionately more saturated fats than a McDonalds quarter pounder with cheese and more sugar than a chocolate biscuit. In particular the CFC was outraged by the failure to correctly label some foods that contained dangerous trans fats.
An earlier study done in the year 2000 by another group called the “Food Commission” stated similar findings in their report titled “Good for Sales- Bad for Babies”. Nearly a decade later the CFC survey demonstrated that companies had taken virtually no action to improve the healthiness of products marketed for babies. Even from the cradle children are being set up for a lifetime of obesity.
